The Longest Night

Posted on

O God, we come to you in prayer…

The Longest Night Service is a much loved pastoral tradition at Palmer when we acknowledge the winter solstice and the darkness that some of us feel as we prepare for the Season of Christmas.

Everyone experiences loss and grief. There is illness, addiction, the death of a loved one, feelings of sadness and alienation. This year especially, we cope with physical, emotional and spiritual hurt wrought by a hurricane’s destructive power. The desire for normalcy goes unanswered; we struggle to leave haunting memories behind.

On this longest night, you will be reminded that you do not carry your burdens alone. Please come… for a quiet time of worship, nourishment and acknowledgment of the need for hope and faith in the healing Light of Christ. Special prayers and time for reflection will be offered along with Healing Prayer, Holy Unction and the Holy Eucharist.

… Show us the Way, O God, for we your people walk in darkness.

The Healing Service will be held Wednesday, December 20, at 6:00 pm in St. Bede’s Chapel with a simple reception to follow.
