Children’s Choir as Sunday School
With great energy and enthusiasm, Palmer brings together Christian formation and music education through the Holy Cross Children’s Choir. Singing together offers many benefits—from strengthening focus and social skills to nurturing imagination—and it’s joyful, too! At church, we sing to praise and thank God and to serve the worshiping community.
What children will learn through song
Our choir sings songs that:
- build community
- teach children more about God and God’s creation
- give them a shared purpose and goal
- develop musical and listening skills
What a typical class looks like
Each session includes:
- A gathering song
- Active warm-ups to engage both body and voice
- Worship Song I
- A song game
- Worship Song II
- A song game or dismissal
Supportive leadership
Children are well supported in every rehearsal:
- Older choir members serve as Choir Assistants, helping build confidence and community
- Ms. Courtney’s Choir Assistant provides another caring adult presence in the room
Worship schedule
Children have three rehearsal Sundays to prepare a song for worship. Regular attendance helps ensure the best experience for each child.
On the fourth Sunday:
- The choir offers their song as a gift to God on behalf of the congregation
- Children meet at 9:00 a.m. to rehearse and put on robes
- They sing at the beginning of the 10:00 a.m. worship service
- After singing, children return to sit with their families
