About Our Troop
Scouting exists to help young people grow into responsible, capable, and ethical leaders. Our troop encourages each Scout to live by the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily lives: learning to lead, serve others, and face challenges with confidence.
Who We Are
Troop 511 is an active group of Scouts supported by dedicated leaders and families. We’re based in Houston, Texas and operate under the guidance of the Twin Bayou District in the Sam Houston Area Council. We take place in Palmer Episcopal Church, who shares our commitment to youth development.
What We Do
Scouts in our troop take part in:
- Weekly meetings that build skills in leadership, first aid, camping, and more
- Monthly outings like campouts, hikes, and high adventure activities
- Frequent service projects to give back to our community
- Annual summer camps and high-adventure trips
- Merit badge work and rapid rank advancement toward earning the Eagle Scout Award
- Leadership opportunities through youth-led planning and our Patrol Leader Council
Meeting Schedule
- Troop Meetings - Held weekly and led by Scouts, these meetings focus on learning skills, planning activities, and working toward rank advancement. Scouts also prepare for upcoming campouts and service projects.
- PLC (Patrol Leaders’ Council) - A monthly meeting where youth leaders organize the troop’s schedule, discuss what’s working, and take responsibility for guiding their patrols.
- Troop Committee Meetings - Adult leaders meet to support the troop’s program, manage finances, and ensure safety within the troop. All parents are encouraged to attend and get involved.
The Scout Oath
- “On my honor I will do my best…” Scouts commit to living with integrity and trying their hardest in everything they do.
- “…to do my duty to God and my country…” Scouts respect their faith and take responsibility as citizens, serving their communities and nation.
- “…and to obey the Scout Law;” The Oath and Law go hand in hand. A Scout promises to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
- “…to help other people at all times;” Service is at the core of Scouting. Whether through big projects or small acts, Scouts are always ready to lend a hand.
- “…to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.” Scouts strive to take care of their bodies, keep learning, and make ethical choices in all areas of life.
Scout Motto:
- Be Prepared
Scout Slogan:
- Do a good turn daily.
