Dinner & Discussion with Mark Jones

Posted by Joan Glover on

For the first time, Palmer’s Dinner & Discussion group met electronically on Friday, April 17th.  More than 60 people joined this Zoom event and were able to ask “live” virtual questions.  There were even out-of-state participants!

Professor Mark Jones, Political Science fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, was presenter.  His topic “The Response to COVID-19 and the 2020 Federal and State Elections” was a very timely and important topic for online viewers.

Many Palmers have heard Prof. Jones’ astute analysis about elections and various political issues on radio, television, and in print media.  Included in questions to Prof. Jones were: “How does the 2020 Census affect redistricting after COVID-19?” “Is the November election actually a referendum on President Trump?” “Is vote-by-mail a possibility for upcoming elections and what are the risks?”  His responses provided additional insight to the current challenges confronting us.

It was a real treat to come together during this difficult time.  Special thanks to the Rev. David Wantland who handled the Zoom logistics.
